Danville Science Center more accessible for low-income families

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Danville Science Center is trying to make itself more accessible to low-income families.

Families with EBT cards can now show the card at the museum and received a reduced entry rate.

Each card will work for four people.

It will only cost children and seniors $1 each and adults get in for $2. The full rate for the museum is $6 for children and seniors and $7 for adults for the exhibits only.

The reduced rates are a result of the museum now participating in the national "Museums For All" initiative.

"Danville has one of the highest child-poverty rates in Virginia," DSC Executive Director Adam Goebel pointed out. "There's definitely a need to be able to provide access for quality museum experiences here in Southside Virginia. We're just hoping that individuals will come and take advantage of it."

Currently, the science center is open Monday-Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
