Bedford County Fair returns for second year with more attractions

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Bedford County Fair will return in September 1st through 4th. This decision was made after last year's fair, the first in 40-years, exceeded attendance expectations. Nearly 15,000 attended the fair in 2015.

This year, organizers are expecting double the crowds. The fair was also extended from three-days to four days.

Fair organizers say finding space to hold the event has been an obstacle in the past; however, the Glenwood Center is welcoming the fair back again this year.

"Our community has wanted a fair for a long time," said Joy Power, the fair superintendent. "One of the biggest hurdles we face is Bedford County does not currently have a fair grounds. So, we had the generous donation of the Glenwood property by Curry Martin. As soon as he said we could use his property, there were people willing to put on a fair."

The Miss Bedford County Fair pageant, a petting zoo and pony rides will be new at the fair this year.

Organizers expect the four day event to bring in half-a-million dollars.
