(WSLS 10) - Staff at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant will take care packages to the post office today to send to New River Valley troops who are deployed. The plant recently conducted a Care Package for Troops Drive, collecting items most requested by troops including snacks, candy, toiletries and ear buds. They hopes to collect enough donations to fill 75 care packages, which coincides with the plants 75th anniversary. The care packages also contain hand made cards from local elementary school children.

Attorney General Mark Herring will talk to officers in Abingdon today as the fourth of five regional trainings on safe, fair and impartial, 21st century policing begins. The three day training gives officers the latest techniques for promoting public safety while ensuring fair treatment and equality. Several agencies from across the state will take part.

Operators at the Gathright Dam near Convington will conduct pulse releases today. It is expected to begin around 6 this morning and end around 1:30 p.m. Water levels on the Jackson River will rise between three and four and a half feet. Three more pulse releases are scheduled over the next three months.

New regulations about overtime take affect later this year that will impact both large and small businesses. Today, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance holds its Business at Breakfast series to talk about the changes. A labor attorney will lead a roundtable discussion about compliance and exemptions from the new rules. Starting in December, the salary threshold for overtime exemption will increase from $23,660 to $47,476.
