Colonels Hope Youth Can Serve Them Well

ROANOKE  (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- The High School Camp tour rolls on, with a stop back in Roanoke.

Coach Bobby Martin's Colonels--are young.  The Colonels come back after a 4-6 campaign in 2015.

Some of those losses came to powerhouses in Lord Botetourt, Northside, and Jefferson Forest. T

They lost a big group of seniors as well. They only return 3 on offense and 2 on defense, so experience gives way to youthful enthusiasm.

Among one of the voids to fill is the quarterback position-- where dual threat QB Tyrell Adams shined last season. Seniors Derrick Hines and Matthew Lewis-Bell are battling for the starting spot this season.

"It's been a great experience and get to know my teammates learn my brother's and learn the chemistry." says Quarterback Matthew Lewis-Bell.

"It is a great opportunity for my teammates. I'm a good leader and they can follow behind me," says Quarterback Derrick Hines.

"We got a lot of voids to fill-- offensive line, defensive line, linebacker-- we got a lot of spots to fill.  We have some good young guys that are working hard.  They just have to learn what we're doing," says Head Coach Bobby Martin.

"We just need to play hard play as a team and just execute," explains linebacker Donovan Brown.

For the second year in a row the Colonels will open on the road at Jefferson Forest.
