Bedford preliminary hearing reveals new details in Angelo Pederes carnal knowledge/ abduction case

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - We're learning new details about a man charged with having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl in Bedford County and abducting a 2-year-old child.

Former Army Sgt. Angelo Paderes was in Bedford General District Court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

The mother of the 2-year-old, Juana Harmond, testified, giving a chilling account of being used by Paderes in a plot to get to the 14-year-old he is accused of having sexual contact with.

In the hearing, Paderes sat quietly as Harmond described the night of June 5, when he solicited her services as an escort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

She says he paid her $200 dollars to come to dinner with him his "girlfriend's family".

He then took her, and her two-year-old son, all the way to Forest, in Bedford County, to a restaurant called Pho One, which is owned by the family of the 14-year-old.

Harmond testified that Paderes asked her to go inside and find a phone he had hidden so he could communicate with the 14-year-old.

When she refused to help him and told restaurant staff what was going on, Paderes drove off with her son.

The two-year old was found safe hours later in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Investigator Brian Garland with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force also testified, confirming many details of Harmond's story through phone evidence.

He also said evidence shows Paderes had visited Bedford before, between May 19 and May 21, and did have sexual relations with the 14-year-old.

Paderes is now charged with four counts of computer solicitation, one count of carnal knowledge of a minor and one count of abduction.

His case will be heard by a grand jury in November.
