Auburn Wants to Keep Winning Tradition

RINER (WSLS-10 SPORTS) - Jack Turner's coaching job at Auburn is well documented. He turned around a team that hadn't won in nearly four seasons.

into a playoff team, with just one season of ramp up before he got them to the playoffs. Three playoff seasons later Turner gives way to Cam Akers ---one of his former assistants.

Turner's health is keeping him off the field for now.  Meanwhile Auburn will have to overcome the loss of leading rusher Jeremy Nelson who has moved to Parry McCluer.

They return a good nucleus from a 6-5 playoff team. It is a team that wants to continue to be known as a perennial playoff contender.

"We have a strong community and we have a lot of support in our community, but the expectations have changed here. You know it's not just about winning 5-6 games we want to try to be a playoff contender every year and that's the mentality that we have in our weight room and that's the mentality will also try to set here on the field, " explains new coach Cam Akers.

"That's what we've been practicing for who want to keep it that tradition going and we hope to continue that for my fourth year," says senior linebacker Adam Otey.

"I want to keep going I'd like to get farther than the first round like we did last year but I think will make it to the playoffs easy, " explains senior lineman Hunter Perkins.

Akers actually played at Pulaski county under Coach Turner. His Auburn team opens up against narrows on August 26th.
