2 rescued from sinking boat off Virginia Beach coast

Jesse Varner, WAVY – PORTSMOUTH (WAVY) – The Coast Guard and other local authorities helped out two people whose boat was taking on water about five miles off of Virginia Beach on Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received the emergency call at 8:48 a.m. A crew from Coast Guard Station Little Creek and a helicopter crews from Air Station Elizabeth City were the first to dispatch around 9:30 a.m.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Beach Fire Department and the Virginia Marine Police also arrived on scene around 10 a.m.

Crews arrived and began dewatering the boat. The two boaters were transferred off the boat and were wearing life jackets.

The boat was then towed to Cutty Sark Marina.

No injuries were reported.
