Virginia tech football starts fall camp

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - It was the first day of fall football camp for Virginia Tech and this practice looked a little different than those in the past.

Obviously a new head coach in Justin Fuente brings new assistant coaches including offensive coordinator Brad Cornelson. Which brings up the big decision of who will get the nod at starting quarterback. We do know it is narrowed down to Brenden Motley and junior college transfer Jerod Evans.

While the defense is pretty consistent to last year with Bud Fosters return they plan on playing more zone defense this year, which the defensive players are looking forward to because it means more possibilities to force a turnover.

"I like it because I get the drop back in coverage and potential to get some interceptions and stuff like that but it also takes like pressure off secondary that they don't have to be perfect every single play, so I think it'll be good for us," said linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka.

The Hokies season opener against Liberty is about a month away and of course the Battle at Bristol is September 10th.
