Rocky Mount woman indicted on charge of putting still-born in dumpster

FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A Franklin County woman who allegedly disposed of her still-born baby in the trash learned this week her case will be heard by a jury.

Katherine Dellis, 25, was indicted by a grand jury on Monday on one count of concealing a dead body.

According to search warrants filed in Roanoke Circuit Court, Dellis went to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

An examination later revealed she had conditions consistent with recently giving birth.

While at the hospital, she told an investigator she delivered a baby at home and put it in a black garbage bag. An autopsy showed the pregnancy ended in a stillbirth.

An investigator said Dellis did not know about her first pregnancy until she was in her eighth month.

Her trial will be held in Franklin County Circuit Court on December 8.
