Roanoke expands bike lane offerings

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Bicyclists in Roanoke now have more routes to travel.

The city added 6.5 additional miles of bike lanes during the spring and summer months.

Franklin Road, Broadway Street, McClanahan Street, 13th Street and 10th Street all received bike lanes.

With the recent additions, the city now has 35 miles of bike lanes, which isĀ something Roanoke City Transportation Division Manger Mark Jamison said gives a boost to the economy.

"If we can put more bike accommodations on the street. It both helps commuting bicyclist trying to get work or maybe do a shopping trip as well as recreational cyclist who may just want to get out to the Greenway," explained Jamison.

He said that down the road, he hopes to add bicycle accommodations on all major roads.
