Danville Fire Department looking forward to National Night Out

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) – For the Danville Fire Department, National Night Out is just as important as it is for law enforcement.

Typically, National Night Out is a time when law enforcement teams up with neighborhoods to set up events to encourage people to come out, have fun and get to know their fellow community members and most importantly, the officers.

All of that will still be taking place in Danville at 12 locations across the city, including Calvary Baptist Church on Holbrook Street, where firefighters will be offering free blood pressure screenings.

Battalion Chief Shelby Irving said that for firefighter,s community interaction and building a strong relationship with the community are just as important as they are for law enforcement when it comes to helping keep the city safe.

Those relationships are what the fire department hopes to build and strengthen during National Night Out.

“It gives us a chance to talk to them about fire prevention tips, to see if they have any questions for us, and just get to know each other a little bit,” Bat. Chief Irving explained.

The event is scheduled to begin around 6 p.m.
