'In God We Trust' design approved for Montgomery County

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors agreed on a design for the national motto, In God We Trust, for its board room.

This has been a source of controversy for months.

At its meeting Monday night, the board picked a plan that will put the national motto, as well as the state and county mottos, on the wall behind board members.

It will cost around $1,000.

There also may be more than $300,000 of accessibility and security upgrades coming to the board room.

Architects presented a plan Monday that would help keep board members safer and make it easier for the public to hear and speak.

"The building was built in 2002," said supervisor Mary Biggs. "It's now 2016, so it's 14 years. A lot has happened in 14 years."

The board is expected to look at these suggested renovations at a work session later on this month, and then make a decision shortly after.
