Former WDBJ7 reporter denied bond

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Former WDBJ7 reporter Orlando Salinas was denied bond on Monday.

Two high school friends testified on his behalf before he took the stand.

He said he was surprised to be indicted and didn't see the charge coming.

The judge decided Salinas' lawyers didn't adequately show he's not a danger to the community or himself, and not a flight risk.

The judge also said this is a difficult case and could potentially carry life sentences.

Prosecutor said the 64-year-old victim had several health issues. She and Salinas had known each other for a while and he texted her on January 11 to ask if he could come over.

According to the prosecutor, as Salinas was about to leave, he pushed the victim against the wall and proceeded to rape her.

She called her friend that same day and told her she had been raped. She went to doctor a couple of days later and police were notified.

When investigators talked to Salinas he said it was consensual oral sex. He also said he's surprised to be indicted and didn't see the charge coming..
