The University of Virginia under Title IX investigation

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -The University of Virginia is the subject of a new federal investigation.

The investigation was opened by the U.S. Department Of Education, under Title IX of the Civil Rights Act. Title IX is the federal law that prohibits schools from discriminating on the basis of gender.

On Friday, July 22, the department opened a Title IX sexual violence investigation at UVA.

The university says a former male student filed a complaint saying he faced discrimination based on his gender and his disability during the Title IX process for his case.

UVA was also the subject of a Title IX investigation that wrapped up in September of last year.

The university says it will cooperate fully with the Office of Civil Rights and its review of this case.
