Martisnville SPCA hosting kitten adoption special to celebrate the Kitten Summer Games

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) - While the Olympics start August 5th, there's another summer games event that is generating some excitement in Southside.

August 5th, the Hallmark Channel will debut its inaugural Kitten Summer Games with several kittens from the Martinsville SPCA taking part in the event.

To celebrate, the SPCA is having adoption specials.

From 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Friday, the SPCA offered $5 adoption fees for kittens four-months-old and older.

There was also a bake sale and a sneak-peak at the Games.

The SPCA's executive director, Nicole Harris, says this is the time when cats breed so this adoption event is very important.

"People will find orphaned kitties or find small kittens where they don't see the mother and they'll bring them in. It really kind of burdens and stresses the means of the shelter," she explained.

The adoption special continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the SPCA and at Petsense in Martinsville

Pet owners will also have the opportunity to get their pets microchipped and get ID tags.
