State Runner-up Cavs Focus on Improving

DALEVILLE (WSLS-10 SPORTS)-  Coach Jamie Harless and his  Cavaliers put up a 13-2 record a year ago, and finished as the VHSL 3A state runner-up to Magna Vista High.

Coach Harless is in his 5th season as the head man in Daleville, and is coming off 1st and 10 Coach of the year honors for taking a program from the doldrums to the state final in just four years time.  He's got his system in place and it is rolling in Daleville, but he's clearly not focused on the results, but rather the process, and its effect on his young men.

"Trophies are trophies-- but we're not chasing trophies.  We're chasing a way to make boys into young men and to me, along the way they've seen the formula it takes to get better to be a good man and to improve yourself and to maximize people around you, so that's the message that we always send them, " explains coach Harless.

The Cavaliers open with Botetourt County rival James River on August 26th.
