Redskins training camp underway

RICHMOND (WSLS 10) - Summer is moving us closer and closer to football season and the Washington Redskins training camp started in Richmond this week.

It was a scorcher here today for the first day of camp but that didn't dampen the spirits of Redskins fans who had an opportunity to make a play, or even meet a two-time super bowl winner.

The NFL Network hosted the Training Camp Fan Zone. It offered a touchdown foam pit, where kids could make their own diving touchdown play. There was also a timed obstacle course.

The biggest highlight was the mobile hall of fame, where fans could compare their hand sizes to some of the NFL's elite. Pulaski County product and two-time Super Bowl champ Gary Clark was on hand for autographs and photos.

"NFL Network is coming out doing a great thing with the fans. The Fan Zone is off the chain and to be able to do this with my team in the backdrop it's unbelievable," Clark said. "I'm still like a little kid kind of speechless at times. Sometimes it's hard for me to believe that I was able to come out here and fulfill my dream as a young man and play with such a good organization."

Redskins fan Quincy Green said, "It's actually a good opportunity to experience the players which is something you don't get at the actual game. You get to shake hands and share ideas so it's a great chance to do that."
