Saints help flood victims before training camp kicks off

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS (WSLS 10) - The New Orleans Saints are in White Sulphur Springs helping clean up some of the homes devastated in Greenbrier County last month.

The Saints have their training camp at The Greenbrier, but before it begins, the team wanted to come and help those who lost everything.

A month after the flooding in White Sulphur Springs, it still looks like Mother Nature just hit the area as some homes are completely off their foundations.

Barbara Long, has lived in her home for nearly 50 years and was shocked at the devastation the flooding brought.

"It's an honor. It's giving back to the community, seeing this just touched my heart," said rookie safety Von Bell.

He is one of about 40 members on the team who went to three different sites helping to remove debris from homes.

"I'm in sweat right now. It's good hard work with nails flying everywhere, wood flying, but I'm ripping the floor inside and we're just having a great time bonding," continued Bell.

The Saints are working with Samaritan's Purse, a nonprofit disaster relief organization. Workers said they've cleaned up 130 homes with 700 volunteers since they started about 5 weeks ago.

They are pleased to have such high-profile volunteers putting in some manual labor.

"It's wonderful, wonderful they're giving back the community where they practice. It's great I like that," said Carl Martin with Samaritan's Purse.

Long is glad to see people getting the help they need to restart their lives.

New Orleans Saints are up in West Virginia right now helping with flood relief before their training camp begins.
