Former WDBJ7 reporter arrested, charged with rape, trial date set

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) – Former WDBJ7 reporter Orlando Salinas was arrested in Montgomery County Tuesday night.

At an arraignment on Wednesday afternoon, Brad McConnell was appointed as his attorney and his trial date has been set for October 19 at 9 a.m.

Salinas faces charges of rape and forcible sodomy from a direct indictment from a Montgomery County grand jury on Tuesday.

The charges stem from an incident on January 11, 2016, according to court documents. The documents reveal that the alleged victim is not his wife.

Salinas does have prior criminal history of larceny, according to court documents

WSLS 10 has learned Salinas was under investigation for some time and the charges are the result of a direct indictment from the Montgomery County grand jury on Tuesday.

He's currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
