$2 million restoration of historic train station complete

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - It took 15 years and over $2 million, but restoration of Roanoke's historic Virginian Railway passenger station is complete.

The station, which was opened in 1910 on South Jefferson Street, was destroyed in a fire in 2001.

The Roanoke chapter of the National Railway Historic Society and the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation started an effort to restore it to its former glory.

It will display artifacts and exhibits from the Virginian Railway.

James Cosby, Chairman of the Virginian Railway Station Restoration Committee said "Well we're delighted. We're not so delighted with the 15 years that it took to do it and so forth, but that's the way it turned out. We just persevered and got through the process.

The station also happens to be a PokéStop in the videogame, "Pokémon GO"
