Roanoke Democrats speak against Trump in advance of his Roanoke visit

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Hillary Clinton supporters held a news conference in Roanoke in advance of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's town hall.

About two dozen people stood in support of Clinton who say Trump and Pence are not fit for the White House.

This comes just hours before the Republican ticket is expected to address thousands of people in Roanoke.

Opponents say the two have a history of divisive comments which should not be tolerated.

Vice Mayor Anita Price, Chairwoman of the Roanoke County Democratic Committee Susan Cloeter, and Professor Carter Turner, were among the Roanoke leaders who spoke on Monday morning.

The speakers said that Trump is looking to create a divided America.

"His public displays of bullying, name calling, put downs, divisive and racists remarks are difficult and embarrassing to explain to impressionable children," said Roanoke Vice-Mayor Anita Price.

There was some opposition to Clinton's supporters as one man interrupted the news conference and held up a sign reading "Defeat crooked Hilary, vote Trump."
