VINTON (WSLS10) Dozens of people in the Roanoke Valley are lifting heavy objects to help four legged friends. About 40 people are competed in the "Star City Strongman Competition." They lifted tires kegs and even a small car.

All the money raised benefits Angels of Assisi and competitors said they're happy to be participating in this event.

"This is my first competition I'm kind of amped up I haven't competed in a very long time so this is awesome" Heather Hunter, a competitor said.

Organizers said this is first time Star City Strongman Competition was held at the Lancerlot Family Fitness Center in Vinton.

"It's an exciting event these competitors have trained for months and they're pushing their bodies to the absolute limit" Andy Schields, a volunteer said.
