(WSLS 10) - Galax and Carroll County holds its Relay for Life tonight. Twenty-five teams will walk to raise money for cancer patients. The event begins tonight at 6 p.m. at Carroll County High School.

The Opening Ceremony for the Commonwealth Games is tonight. The ceremony includes Olympic gold medalist Disk Fosbury, Miss Virginia, a performance from The Skyriders Trampoline Team and the parade of athletes. Events will take place throughout the weekend. You can get a weekend pass for $20.

The Salem Farmers Market hosts Salem After Five tonight. The band "Domino" will take to the stage. In addition to music, there will also be activities for kids, food vendors and ice cream.

Danville Utilities asks you to conserve power this afternoon between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. as its power supplier issues a peak alert. The alerts are issued when demand increases, especially during extreme heat or cold conditions. Transmission and capacity charges are set in part based on the amount of power used during peak periods.

The Disaster Recovery Center in Pocahontas County and four other West Virginia Counties will close permanently tonight at 6 p.m. People who still need help can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency to register, get information about home inspections and ask questions. Centers remain open in Greenbrier County and five other counties.

Attorney General Mark Herring travels to Roanoke this morning. He will meet with the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce to talk about what his office is doing to support local businesses. He will also talk about new public safety threats, the future of the economic climate and ways his office can benefit Virginia businesses.

A prayer service takes place today in Amherst County. According to the Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the service will offer prayers for the community as well as law enforcement and first responders. It begins at 1 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office.
