(WSLS 10) - A Cyber Security Camp gets underway today at Liberty University. High school students will work together to solve problems and secure networked computer systems. The camp runs through Friday.
The trial begins today in Roanoke for the man accused of killing another. Police believe that Orencio Maldonado shot Ancelmo Castillo inside his home. Paramedics say he died at the scene. Police believe Maldonado had been drinking and using drugs before getting into a fight with Castillo. Maldonado was identified by using his fingerprints after he gave them false indentification. He's charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Investigators say Maldonado is in the U.S. illegally. He was deported from another state in 2006 following an immigration violation.

A Bassett man, facing a murder charge returns to court today. Lavest Whisenton was appointed a new attorney in Henry County Circuit Court in June. He's charged with second degree murder in the death of Cory Thomas. Thomas was reported missing in October of 2010. At the time he disappeared, Thomas was wanted in the homicide of Jason Miller. Thomas' SUV was found abandoned on Highway 220 in Oak Level in November of 2010. His body was found in March of 2011. Investigators believe drugs and the murder of Mille were the motive in Thomas' death.
The man charged with 21 counts of child pornography could be sentenced in Danville court today. In April, the judge ordered a psychological evaluation of Michael Edwards. He faces a maximum of 205 years in prison after he pled guilty earlier this year. He was initially charged with 100 counts.
Patrick Henry Community College holds Fast Pass Enrollment today. Students can complete an application, meet with an advisor and register for fall classes. The enrollment event is today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Paradise Cathedral Community Outreach Center in Roanoke holds a Stop the Violence Community Rally. Mayor Sherman Lea and Police Chief Tim Jones will speak at the event as well as WSLS 10's Brie Jackson and Eric Johnson.
Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton will deliver opening remarks at Virginia ABC's 2016 Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Project. The five day summer leadership conference will prepare high school students to work to keep their schools and communities drug free.
Central Virginia Community College holds an open house today. The Rapid Train Showcase gives potential students a chance to see the programs that offer training for entry level, skilled jobs. Today's open house starts at noon at the Virginia Employment Commission in Lynchburg.
