Fuente Focuses on Getting to Know Hokie Nation, Team

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS)-   The Roanoke Valley Hokie Club hosted their football kickoff dinner at the Hotel Roanoke Monday night.

Their special guests from Blacksburg included Dr. Timothy Sands, Athletic Director Whit Babcock, Voice of the Hokies Jon Laaser, the Hokie Bird--and last but not least..

new head football coach Justin Fuente.   The new coach talked to our own Alyssa Rae about getting to know the Hokie Nation and his team since taking over in Blacksburg.

"I get excited for these events. It's fun to meet the people who are passionate about Virginia Tech and passionate about Virginia Tech football and sometimes we get a chance to put a face with the name, " explains Coach Fuente. The new coach has also been hosting members of the team at his house this summer.

"I think it's important for us to add depth to that relationship. I want these kids to see me not just as the head coach but as a father and a husband. I want them to feel welcome in my home and know that we don't just talk about family we live it.  One of the many ways we try to do that-- just bring the kids over to the house and sit down and play ping-pong and eat some good food and fellowship for a little while, " says Coach Fuente.

Virginia Tech reports for fall camp on August 3rd, with the team's first practice set for August 4th.
