The Standard opening Altavista office, creating more than 200 jobs

ALTAVISTA - The Standard Insurance Company plans to open an office in Altavista, creating up to 178 jobs within 36 months and 234 news jobs by 2020.

The new office will be staffed and operational by September 2016.

The Standard will be investing $1.7 million to open the new office.

Virginia  competed against other states for the project. The new office will be the company's fifth regional site, along with Portland and Hillsboro, Ore., White Plains, N.Y., and Cincinnati, Ohio.

"We took a great deal of care in choosing this location for our new office," said Dan McMillan, vice president of Employee Benefits at The Standard. "In addition to the concentration of talent in the area, Altavista, Lynchburg and the surrounding communities in Campbell County are a strong match with our corporate culture."

The Standard has posted roles internally and externally and has plans to hold job fairs in Campbell County.

The Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission approved $320,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds. Additional funding and services to support The Standard's employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
