Grayson Co. schools erase $900,000 budget deficit

GRAYSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - In a single school year, the Grayson School Division erased the $900,000 deficit it began the 2015-16 school year with.

The Grayson County Board of Supervisors loaned the school division $900,000 last June out of the 2015-16 budget to cover a large deficit that occurred with the previous administration.

Grayson County Superintendent Kelly Wilmore, who was hired in December, credits the accomplishment to a combination of several things.

"I credit the excellent financial management displayed by finance director Dr. Ted Phillips and his staff," who Wilmore hired in January.

Wilmore also credited Grayson teachers and staff for being "team players" as several posted positions were not filled this school year.

"We had teachers teaching four blocks at the high school to help save money, and we are very grateful for their sacrifice," said Wilmore.
