ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Carilion held a clothing drive on Tuesday to make a difference for patients who have no clothes to wear home once they are discharged from the hospital.
Youth volunteers collected nearly 1,200 new and used sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts and socks at Carilion Laundry Services in Roanoke.
In many cases, patients' clothes are cut off during admission or they come in wearing tattered clothing.
"When we send these people home and on their road to healing, we want to send them off with dignity," said Shanna Flowers, the manager of volunteer services.
All donated clothing items will fill Carilion's first Clothes Closet by Thursday.
