Patience is a Virtue for MOD-4 Racer

Cory Dunn has always had a knack for racing. The Salem native has spent plenty of race-days at the Motor Mile speedway.

"Ever since I was a young kid I've been around the race track helping different people. I've always had a drive to be in one of them", said Dunn.

That drive has been there longer than the Mod-4 racer can remember, but his parents know exactly how it started. They say Cory was basically born at the track.

"Ray Young actually won a race here the night Cory was born. Cory was born about four hours or so after we left the race track that night", said Cory's father Larry.

Through the years he spent countless hours watching from the stands and working alongside his dad in the pits.

"At fifteen is when I started diving in and getting hands on experience with what it takes to put them together to get to the race track every week and what we've gotta do to make them better and make them competitive", said Dunn.

With the help of his dad, a few sponsors and owner Pop Holdren, Dunn has now landed a spot in the drivers seat of a Mod-4 car.

"It's unbelievably fun. I can't put it into words how much fun it is when you're out there sliding around on the race track with other cars right around you", explained Dunn.

And half way through the season it appears that all those years of being at the track are paying off. He is currently ranked fourth in the field of sixteen racers.

"We've progressed every week we've been here. He's kept his nose clean and kept all the fenders on the car and all the tires are still round when we go home", added his father Larry.

Moving forward Dunn plans to continue to build on his young career at the Motor Mile Speedway.
