Danville YMCA helping God's Pit Crew collect flood donations

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The YMCA in Danville is helping God's Pit Crew collect water bottles and cleaning supplies for flood victims in West Virginia.

Tuesday morning, the Y decided to offer anyone who joins by July 15 the opportunity to have their sign-up fee waived if they bring in a case of water.

Current members who bring in a case of water will get a free t-shirt.

God's Pit Crew was also out at three locations across Southwest Virginia on Tuesday collecting water, money, and supplies for the flood victims.

By 1:45 p.m., God's Pit Crew volunteers at the Sam's Club in Danville had already collected over half a semi truck full of water.

"This was all formulated in the beginning probably around 6:30 a.m.," Danville YMCA Communications Coordinator Jonathan Holcomb said about the Y's effort to help collect donations. "That's where it started and it bloomed from there. It became 'we'll waive the $50 joiner fee. That'll get an impact.'"

God's Pit Crew will be back out collecting donations all day Wednesday. Click here for a list of times and locations.
