WSLS 10 wins three Capital Emmy awards

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - On Saturday, WSLS 10 staff won three Emmy awards during the annual Capital Emmy Award ceremony in Baltimore.

WSLS 10's Jenna Zibton and photographer Greg Moore won for Investigative Report Single Story for an in-depth look at $1.7 million missing equipment and a $200,000 security "oversight" at the Salem VA Medical Center.

WSLS 10 staff won an Emmy for "Best Early Evening Newscast" produced by Katelin Waldron.

The Daytime Blue Ridge Team of Natalie Faunce and Ryan Anderson won the Emmy for Magazine Program – Feature Segment. Their story, Living the Legacy, the Ultimate NASCAR Experience, was an exciting look behind the scenes at the Charlotte Raceway and what it is like to be on the track.

Lindsey Ward and photojournalist Jeff Perzan were nominated in the Feature News Report: Serious Feature category for the story "Miracle Baby." The stor,y shot over a nine-month period in 2015, followed the journey of Mary Susan and Brandon Williams as their child was carried by surrogate Autumn Anderson.

Faunce and Anderson were also nominated in the Arts/Entertainment Program Feature/Segment category for the segment entitled A Musical Calling: Sharing the Secret of Garth Newel.

The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is the chapter responsible for awarding the Emmy® to those whose work in the television industry in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia exhibits excellence worthy of the Emmy®. The Emmy Award is the premier television production award presented in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows, and sports programming. The awards honor excellence in television programming.

This comes after WSLS 10 was honored with the most Associated Press awards for a television station in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market for the second year in a row. Lindsey Ward and WSLS photojournalist Jeff Perzan were also honored by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters on Friday night for "Miracle Baby."
