ROANOKE (WSLS10)-- State Police Sgt. Rick Garletts says one woman has died after a hit and run on Interstate 581 late last night. Now officers are asking for the public's help to find the person who hit her.

Investigators believe Lori Diane Alls, 44, of Roanoke, got onto Interstate 581 at Orange Avenue. They believe she lost control and the 2002 Chevrolet spun out, hitting the left side concrete wall. Witnesses say they saw Alls out of her car and it appeared she was calling for help. Investigators believe she tried to cross Interstate 581 to get help. That's when police say they believe she was hit.

Police say she was was uninjured in the original crash, but was struck by an unknown vehicle while crossing to the right shoulder of the roadway and died at the scene.

Evidence at the scene suggests the vehicle that fled the scene will be a passenger car, small truck or SUV.  Virginia State Police are asking that Insurance Companies and Body Shops notify the State Police if they service a vehicle with right front and mirror damage.  The damage will include the headlight, marker light, right front fender and passenger mirror.

Police want to get word out to the public so neighbors and body shops can be on the lookout. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to notify the Virginia State Police Salem Division at 1-800-542-5959 or by dialing #77 on a cell phone, or emailing questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
