(WSLS 10) - Part of Cotton Hill Road in Roanoke County will close starting today. The section between Cotton Hill Road and Monet Drive will shut down. Crews will reconstruct this section of road. Detours will be set up. The road will reopen in mid-July.
Roanoke City Council holds a farewell reception today. Mayor David Bowers and Councilman Court Rosen will be honored. Neither of the two ran for re-election. The reception begins at 5 p.m. in the White Room at Blue 5.

The Roanoke Valley Horse Show begins today. The Virginia Horse Center in Lexington will host the event, which runs through Saturday. Last year's show was scheduled to be held at the Salem Civic Center, but was canceled due to a lack of sponsors.
You can try out college for free starting today. This week, Patrick Henry Community College will allow anyone over the age of 18 to explore the campus, sample classes and check out the school's programs.
The Galax Fire Department holds its annual carnival starting today. Gates open each day at 5 p.m. with bingo and the carnival opening at 6 p.m. The carnival is the biggest fundraiser for the fire department. It runs daily through Saturday.
The Salem VA Medical Center hosts a Veterans Town Hall and Listening Session today. Veterans and family members are invited to attend. Members of the executive leadership team as well as other staff will be available to discuss individual issues. The town hall begins at 3 p.m. at the medical center.
Both lanes of Main Street in Lexington will close tonight between Diamond Street and Massie Street. Crews will set bridge components across Main Street. A detour will be in place.
Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and several Delegates to the Virginia General Assembly today will be at Radford University, speaking at the American Legion Boys State of Virginia. More than 700 high school students have been chosen to participate. The program shows the students about state and local government. Attorney General Mark Herring speaks to the group Tuesday with Governor Terry McAuliffe expected to speak on Thursday.
