ALLEGHANY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - According to authorities, the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office received a call at 2:30p.m. Sunday afternoon in regards to a missing man. Police said Johnnie Smith, age 66 of Covington was last seen while hunting for lizards in the stream between Dunbrack Rd and the top of the mountain on RT 220 North.
According to Lt. Col. Matthew Bowser of the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office, his office was called in to help the Falling Springs Fire and Rescue search for Mr. Smith. A K9 unit was also dispatched as well as additional deputies to put more feet on the ground. The Virginia State Police were also called in to assist with a K9 and the Virginia State Police Helicopter.
