UPDATE: Pedestrian hit by dump truck on Orange Avenue identified

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke police identify the pedestrian who died after being hit by a dump truck on Orange Avenue Friday morning as David Reid Elbourn age 48, of Roanoke.

Police responded to the 500 block of Orange Avenue NE in reference to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at 9:48 a.m. The man who was hit was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation shows that man who was hit and a friend were attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of Orange Avenue when the of them stepped out in front of the vehicle and was hit, according to Roanoke police.

No charges are pending against the driver of the recycling dump truck at this time, according to Lt. Newman.

The truck is not a city or municipality truck but with a private company, Omni Source.

The investigation closed the eastbound section of Orange Avenue between Williamson Road and Plantation Road for a few hours as traffic investigators finished processing the scene.
