Identity released of worker who died in Independence Lumber accident

GRAYSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Grayson County Sheriff's Office released the name of the man who died after an accident at Independence Lumber on Wednesday.

Jonathan Morgan Ball, 21, of Troutdale, worked for Independence Lumber since October 2014.

On Wednesday, at about 3 p.m., both the Grayson County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police responded to Independence Lumber for a reported accident.

When they arrived, investigators learned Ball, who worked in the firewood processing department, walked from his work station across the lumber yard, where he was struck by a large wheel loader with a grapple. The wheel loader was transporting a number of logs at the time.

Ball was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are currently following-up on the accident.  In addition, OSHA Investigators will ensure work place safety plans were in place and being followed.
