(WSLS 10) -    The Metropolitan Community Church is holding a vigil tonight to remember the Orlando shooting victims. The interfaith service starts 6 p.m.

The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors is meeting tonight. Supervisor Al Bedrosian is concerned about one item on the agenda... raises. He says he has  voted against this each year.  Bedrosian says when raises were passed in 2014, he wrote a check back to Roanoke County with the amount of the raise.  In 2015, the Board did not vote itself a raise because of pressure from the citizens.  He wants to see the issue voted on during the November election.... Because the people should vote if they deserve a raise or not.

Renovations are coming to Cave Spring High School. The Roanoke County School board will talk about the changes tonight. Spectrum Design is working on a concept study to come up with two alternate project designs and costs.  Then the School Board will direct the Architect to proceed with one of the project designs.  The Architect will then complete the programming, Schematic Design Phase, and construction cost estimate.  We anticipate this portion of their work will be $300,000.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a lifesaving blood transfusion. Today is World Blood Donor Day. The Red Cross must collect approximately 14,000 blood donations every day to meet the needs of patients at 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide. Blood is traditionally in short supply during the summer months due to summer vacation travel. June in particular, is a difficult month for blood centers to collect blood donations and can result in increased need and decreased donations. Statistics show that 1 in every 7 people entering the hospital needs blood, with more than 40,000 pints being transfused every day. And while the whole blood donation process takes about 45 minutes, less than 10 percent of the population eligible to donate blood does so annually. Virginia Blood Services, a not-for-profit organization that provides blood products and transfusion-related services in Richmond, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Roanoke, Winchester, Washington DC and West Virginia, will host several drives across the region and welcomes your reporter and/or camera for reports that day/evening.
