(WSLS 10) - The former Blacksburg High School property will be talked about in closed session before tonight's Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting. A decision is not expected to be made. Tonight the board of supervisors will also meet with lawyers about the Mountain Valley Pipeline in closed session. Also on the agenda the Commander of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant will speak to the Board of Supervisors about the open air burning process.
This morning the Justice For Kionte Spencer coalition will meet with the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia to deliver a petition demanding the opening of a federal investigation regarding the killing of Kionte Spencer. The coalition is demanding police videos from shooting be released, an independent investigation be conducted and that the names of the police officers that killed Spencer be released.
Radford Police are looking to replace two K9s and a local store is stepping in to help. Paddle-Yaxs Kayaks will host a fundraiser called "Paddle for Paws". The business will raffle off a Kayak. The money raised will help the police department afford new dogs Ruckus and Robbie retire. Radford City Council will recognize Robbie tonight at their meeting.
Giles County dedicates the New River Water Trail signs. Visitors to any of the eight public boat landings in Giles County will now see the signage that outlines safety information, fishing and floating times, includes maps and contact information. There are 37 miles of the New River Water Trail in the county. Today's dedication is at 1 p.m. at the Ripplemead Boat Landing.
