Roanoke Co. house fire causes $100,000 in damages

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The fire department is working to determine what caused a house fire in South Roanoke County on Sunday.

Crews were dispatched to the fire in the 5600 block of Green Meadow Road at 4:49 p.m. Callers said that there were flames coming out of the attic and back of the house. By 5:55 p.m., the fire was under control.

Damage estimates are $100,000.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but a volunteer firefighter was injured and transported to a local hospital. A second volunteer firefighter injury was reported after the fire was under control during clean up. Both firefighters were seen at a local hospital and have been released and are doing well.

The family was in the process of moving to a new home.

In a press release, the fire department thanked neighbors who brought coolers with ice-cold water for the fire crews.
