ROANOKE (WSLS10) - People in Roanoke are also reacting to the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. About two dozen gathered at the Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge for a prayer service.
The fill -n pastor Reverend Kathy Carpenter said the the goal is to pray for the victims and offer support to those who lost their lives in the shooting. People who came to the service are hoping for more peace in the world.
"Let's pray together we don't do this anymore, this is the worst terrorist act and the president said It was a terrorist act let's count it at that and let it be the last we don't need this we need only love" Elizabeth Anderson, who attends MCCBR said.
Carpenter is sad to see another shooting happen especially at a venue where people were having fun.
"I was horrified first of all because there was another shooting," Carpenter said.
Others who attended are shocked the mass shooting left so far, 50 dead and more than 50 injured.
Kathy Fisher who attends MCCBR said she's shocked a shooting happened at a nightclub where the LGBT community is accepted.
"No matter where it happens, no matter what the circumstances are it doesn't matter who the victims or survivors are of something like this it's very sad," Fisher said.
While everyone is learning about shooting, the MCCBR community is hoping for peace.
"We want to live in a world where people are honored, respected for who they are, where shootings like this or violence like this simply don't occur," Fisher said.
There will be an interfaith service at Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge Tuesday at 6 p.m.
