Proceeds from Troutville fundraiser have worldwide impact

TROUTVILLE (WSLS 10) - Hundreds attended the first day of what is known as one of the area's largest yard sales.

Day one of Proceeds for Poverty kicked off Thursday morning in Troutville.

Organizers said this year's goal is to raise $50,000. Proceeds will help dig clean water wells, care for children, widows, and refugees, and help to end sex trafficking in the Roanoke Valley. This effort is through the Street Ransom program.

Over the past five years, 'Proceeds for Poverty has raised $135,000 to make a difference in the Roanoke Valley and around the world.

"We are hoping for another great turnout in the morning. We actually have new items that will be brought in tonight call not replacing some of the items that went out today and there's a lot of great deals on a lot of items, Antiques, housewares, furniture, all kinds of things," said Jonathan Grooms, the president of global partners for peace and development.

The three-day sale runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, at the Rainbow Forest Baptist Church.
