Danville 49-year-old shooting victim dies

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The 49-year-old man shot in Danville on Friday, June 3, has died, according to police.

Alex Day, of Danville, was shot in the 300 block of Chatelaine Avenue that night.

When police responded to that area at about 9:50 p.m., they found Day suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center by Danville Life Saving Crew. The victim was listed in stable condition.

Day was later transported to Roanoke Carilion for further treatment, treated and released.

On Wednesday, June 8, at about 3:58 a.m., officers and rescue personnel responded to the 300 block of Chatelaine Avenue in reference to an unresponsive subject. They found Alex Day, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body was taken the Roanoke Medical Examiner's office for further investigation.

Although this incident is being investigated as a homicide, the Medical Examiner's Office will make a final determination on cause and manner of death at a later date.
