National Doughnut Day: How to score a free doughnut

ROANOKE (WSLS10) - The Salvation Army started National Doughnut Day to honor the women who cooked doughnuts for soldiers on the front lines during World War I.

Krispy Kreme workers are cooking up about 220 donuts an hours to dish out to customers in select locations for free.

Dunkin' Donuts is offering a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage while supplies last.

Extra employees were brought in to help with long lines.
