BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Moss Arts Center expanded its Young Artists program to help kids who are not learning art in the classroom.

In Giles County, art class happens weekly for grades one through three; however, for fourth through seventh grades, only students identified as gifted get to participate in art class.

That's why Meggin Hicklin, the Young Artists program director, is going into these schools to help create with the kids.

Hicklin said this is a funding issue that is happening statewide in rural counties.

"My experience is the arts are always the first to go," said Hicklin.

Montgomery and Pulaski counties, as well as Radford, offer weekly art class for all elementary students.
