PATRICK COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Sheriff's deputies arrested a Stuart woman on Sunday after they say she tried to run over a deputy who was attempting to arrest her.

Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith said that the incident began when the sheriff's office was requested by Henry County authorities to find two wanted subjects on Foley Ridge Road in the Pole Bridge area of the county.

Deputy Dustin Foley responded to that area and found the wanted subjects, who were identified as married couple Michelle Spencer Reed, 34, and Joshua Coy Reed, 36, both of Stuart.

Foley arrested Joshua Reed and then attempted to arrest Michelle Reed, who was seated in a full-sized pick-up truck, according to Smith.

Foley told Michelle Reed that she was under arrest, at which time she refused to unlock the doors of the truck and comply with Foley's commands.

After negotiations with Reed failed, Foley broke the passenger window and attempted to place Reed into custody.

She resisted, started the truck and attempted to run over Foley, who was able to jump out-of-the-way without injury.

He then went back to his patrol car to pursue Reed. During the pursuit, Reed allegedly drove head on at Foley's patrol car, and attempted to hit Foley's vehicle. Smith said that Foley was able to avoid a head-on collision with Reed.

Foley pursued Reed for about a half mile, at which time Reed crashed and was taken into custody. Both suspects were eventually turned over to Henry County on their warrants.

Smith said that his office consulted with Commonwealth's Attorney Stephanie Vipperman, which led to the attempted capital murder charge. Reed has also been charged with felony escape from custody, resisting arrest and reckless driving.

Prior to her arrest on Sunday, Reed was released on bond from the original Henry County charges.

Michelle Spencer Reed was arrested again Sunday afternoon in Henry County and is now being held in the Patrick County Jail without bond.
