CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - Tourism is on the rise in Montgomery County and the local hot spots do not plan on that changing any time soon.

The Virginia tourism office said there was a 2.8 percent increase in tourism revenue for Montgomery County in 2014.

The summer months can sometimes be a challenge for local businesses with many Virginia Tech and Radford University students gone, which is why many of the attractions promote not only themselves, but one another.

"We send people not only to other wineries, but to restaurants, to scenic overlooks and to a lot of different things," said Charles Salyers of Whitebarrel Winery. "We have the Virginia wine map on our wall in the back with flyers for inns, bed and breakfasts and small towns."

The state tourism office said there are around 1,330 hospitality and tourism related jobs in Montgomery County.
