ROANOKE (WSLS10) - The family of a fallen Roanoke Marine received a big honor during Sunday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

Sgt. John Davis Harvey's name was inscribed on the top of the windshield of Denny Hamlin's car.

It's part of NASCAR's 2nd annual "600 Miles of Remembrance" campaign.

Each car will have the name of a fallen soldier.

Sgt. Harvey was killed on April 25th, 1980 when the helicopter he was in crashed into an Air Force cargo plane after aborting an attempt to rescue the Americans taken hostage in the U.S. Embassy in Iran.

Sgt. Harvey's sister says it's great to see NASCAR showing support for fallen soldiers.

"I think it's just important that people remember all of our military that have died protecting our country or in the pursuit of liberty. So, any way that that can be remembered is important," said Sgt. Harvey's sister Jaye Harvey.

The "Goodyear" lettering on all of the tires used during Sunday's race will also be replaced with the phrase "support our troops."
