ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - 740 Roanoke City high school seniors will pick up their diplomas during Commencement Friday at the Berglund Center. Patrick Henry high School's Graduation begins at 10 A.M., William Fleming High School's starts at 2 P.M.

Career Technical Education (CTE) continues to grow by leaps and bounds. A record number of Roanoke City students earned (CTE) certifications this year. Industry-recognized credentials signal that students have acquired a defined set of skills and knowledge. This year, 1,778 certifications were earned.
Warner McGhee of Patrick Henry High School/Roanoke Valley Governor's School received an $180,000 Army ROTC Scholarship to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Claudia Rojas of William Fleming High School is the first Roanoke City Schools student to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree from Virginia Western Community College. She will attend James Madison University.
William Fleming High School has four sets of twins graduating.
Forest Park Academy is about to hit a major milestone. It is a school for second chances. Forest Park Academy is for students who dropped out or are in danger of leaving school. Since the program started eight years ago, 950 students have graduated from high school. By the end of the summer, Forest Park expects to reach a 1,000 graduates.
Our graduates will attend colleges and universities all over the country including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2), University of Virginia, College of William & Mary, Wake Forest University, George Mason University, Davidson College, Colorado State University, Louisiana State University, Roanoke College, James Madison University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and many more! We even have one student who will backpack through Europe next year before attending UVA.
