Blacksburg Kroger Associate Selected as Hero

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Arnold Mink, an associate at the South Main Street Kroger in Blacksburg, is part of Kroger's national "Honoring our Heroes" campaign.

"Arnold is an outstanding employee," said store manager Gordon Cox."He is dependable and does his job in an exemplary fashion."

Mink was selected to represent Kroger's Mid-Atlantic Division, along with associates from across the country, and is featured in the 'Meet Our Heroes' section in the 'Honoring Our Heroes' website. He also is featured in a Kroger ad.

Mink enlisted in the Army in 1959 and served in Germany for three years. He was a stenographer for the Commanding General and Chief of Staff for the 3rd Armored Division. "I took care of all written correspondence for the General's Office," Mink said. "I found out that things I did not think I could do, I was able to accomplish, simply by listening and learning from my instructors and superior officers."

Kroger is donating $1 million to the United Service Organizations as part of the Memorial Day campaign. Since 2010, the campaign has raised more than 14 million dollars to support USO programs.
