WASHINGTON D.C. (WSLS 10) - If you thought all floppy disks have been retired, think again.

Government auditors have found the Pentagon still uses the old devices - specifically, the department's nuclear weapons division, which coordinates intercontinental ballistic missiles, nuclear bombers, and tanker support aircraft.

That division is using 1970's era computer systems which require eight-inch floppy disks.

Maintaining the outdated equipment comes with a price tag.

Auditors say it costs about $60 billion a year to run the machines.

The Government Accountability Office report says the Pentagon plans to replace the antiquated systems by the end of 2017.
